THROUGH THE UV LIGHT – A CLOSER LOOK AT THE CHINESE UNDERGLAZED PORCELAIN
Photography in ultraviolet (UV) light is a non-invasive way to reveal areas of alteration in an object. Areas where an adhesive or fill material has been applied may fluoresce (glow) under UV light, revealing information that would be invisible to the eye alone. The fluorescence of decorative elements may also indicate which materials were used. This technique is a valuable tool for conservation science and treatment, as well as documentation. Watch to find out more about the discoveries made by our ceramic conservators.
