About the Event:

Throughout history, axes and maces have acquired a fearsome reputation. Despite their obvious historical use as weapons of war, these works also served a purpose as items of ceremony, a physical symbol that represented rank or religious affiliation, common tools of labor and even as a display of an artist’s mastery. The session will delve into the artistic merit, crafting materials and unique meaning of these artefacts. From ferocious looking maces to the saddle-axes of India, each weapon carries a historical and cultural significance with their own special stories to tell.
