The Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia (IAMM) is reaching its 22nd years in successfully organising an Arabic Calligraphy Course. This course is in collaboration with Persatuan Seni Khat Kebangsaan Malaysia (PSKK) and it will be conducted on every Saturday under the guidance of PSKK’s professional calligraphers.
The objectives of the course are:
- To provide a platform for calligraphy enthusiasts to study and practice of Arabic Calligraphy effectively and systematically.
- To introduce one branch of the Islamic arts that focuses on the graceful of writing Arabic letters.
- To encourage calligraphers to produce commercial products.
Course contents:
- Introduction to Arabic and Jawi letters
- Arabic Calligraphy’s Methods
- Calligraphy tools [including Qalam (reed pen) cutting]
This course is open to two (2) categories:
- Basic class
– Adult’s class
– Under 16 y/o’s class - Advanced class
Medium of instruction : Bahasa Malaysia
Participants will be taught and exposed to the proper techniques of Arabic calligraphy scripts such as Nasakh, Riq’ah, Thuluth, Kufic, Zukhrufah and Arabic calligraphy on canvas. For 2022’s sessions, additional lessons on Diwani Jali will also be included!
