8 June – 31 August 2015
For the second year, IAMM presented the “Capture the Spirit of Ramadan” International Photography Competition™ (IRPC) exhibition. This was a unique and unprecedented 30-day visual celebration of the holy month through photography, aimed to educate and enlighten millions of global viewers. It is an integral part of the “Capture the Spirit of Ramadan” initiative, founded under the context of “Bridging Cultures & Inspiring Creativity”. The initiative offers an international platform for photographers around the world to showcase the beauty of Islam through its art, architecture and cultural diversity.
In this visual celebration of the spiritual month, the splendour of Ramadan that unites all Muslims from different walks of life and cultures has been brought to light through the art of photography. Ramadan spreads the spirit of humanity as it binds people of different faiths to culturally participate in this celebration of joy. This exhibition showcased 66 works by a number of photographers ranging from aspiring and talented amateurs to professional photojournalists and fine art photographers from over 60 countries including Malaysia.
The “Capture the Spirit of Ramadan” initiative is a non-profit, non-partisan project by award-winning boutique creative firm StudioBasel. In conjuction with this exhibition, IAMM has also published a catalogue featuring over 300 outstanding photographs including winners of the competitions since its inception in 2011. With the support from CIMB Islamic Berhad, the "Holy Month of Ramadan: A Visual Celebration" exhibition hoped to deliver a cross-cultural and inter-faith message that portrays the essence of Ramadan through the publication and also educational activities that were held throughout the exhibition period.
