In conjunction with the “Keris: Power and Identity” exhibition, Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia (IAMM) is inviting all enthusiastic learners to join our Wood Carving Workshop by Mohd Zarir bin Abdullah.
Mohd Zarir bin Abdullah is a professional sculptor with over 23 years of experience from Besut, Terengganu. He has 13 years of experience as a wood carver at the Wanpo Art Gallery (Khazanah Seni Warisan) in Terengganu. Mohd Zarir is a student of Wan Mustafa Wan Su, a famous carving instructor from Malaysia’s East Coast.
This hands-on workshop will take place over two days, where participants will be introduced to the basic concepts behind modelling objects in wood. Relating to the making of the keris hulu, participants will be acquainted with the necessary tools of woodcarving and learn basic carving techniques by designing floral motifs. At the end of the workshop, every participant will be able to carve a simple object and can bring home their own masterpiece!
All tools and materials will be provided.
