About the event:

In conjunction with the More than a Day as A Tiger exhibition, the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia invites you to a talk that will examine the visual and material culture of Tipu Sultan’s reign, explore the collection of East India Company and to celebrate the legacy of Haider Ali and Tipu Sultan, highlighting their leadership in 18th-century Mysore providing insights into how their courage influenced Akhbar Khan.

The leading voices to explore the rich legacy of Tipu Sultan and Haider Ali will be Prof. Dr. Anupa Pande where she will examine how Tipu used art and architecture as political statements along with Dr. Collins reflected on how Tipu’s artefacts, now housed in museums, shape historical memory and colonial narratives as well as Mr. Akhbar Khan where he will share a glimpse of the fearless leadership of Mysore’s iconic rulers. Together, these speakers will offer a layered insights into how visual culture, biography, and memory intertwine to define the enduring political and cultural significance of Mysore under Tipu Sultan.
