
In conjunction with the special exhibition Busana: Traditional Clothing of the Malay World, the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia invites you to attend a talk titled “Kebaya: The Styles of Peninsular Malay Women” by Puan Zubaidah Sual, a full-time researcher with extensive experience in the fields of textiles and jewellery in Malaysia and the wider Malay world.
In this talk, Puan Zubaidah will explore the beauty and intricacy of kebaya design as a symbol of Malay women’s elegance. She will also share insights into the evolution of styles, sewing techniques, and the cultural significance embodied in every piece of kebaya.
As an experienced consultant in textile and jewellery cultural artifacts, Puan Zubaidah will also offer a deep perspective on how this traditional attire continues to remain relevant in today’s world of fashion and heritage.
