Discover the Art of Tatreez
Step into the rich tradition of Palestinian embroidery and create your own traditional embroidered chest panel inspired by the Palestinian thobe. In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore the techniques, motifs, and symbolism behind Tatreez while learning how to create a beautiful chest panel by hand.
Guided by Palestinian artisan Nisreen Ali, you will be introduced to the process from start to finish—from preparing your chest panel design and learning essential Tatreez stitches to carefully embroidering and completing your own piece. Along the way, you will gain a deeper appreciation of the cultural heritage and stories woven into Palestinian embroidery.
By the end of the workshop, each participant will have created their own hand-embroidered Tatreez chest panel, inspired by the traditional Palestinian thobe.
About the Instructor:
Nisreen Ali is a Palestinian artisan born in Syria and based in Malaysia since 2014. Her creative practice encompasses traditional Palestinian embroidery (Tatreez), wood burning, and handmade crafts, including crochet.
Nisreen has showcased her work in exhibitions across Malaysia and Europe, including collaborations with the United Nations. She has also conducted Tatreez workshops and courses for several Arab embassies in Malaysia, sharing her knowledge and passion for Palestinian embroidery with diverse communities.
