Position Objective:
To implement a holistic approach to collections care and mitigate risks through preventive measures before damage occurs to the IAMM collection, in accordance with accepted professional conservation standards, practice and ethical principles under the supervision of the Senior Preventive Conservator.
Nature of Job:
▪ Participate in the preventive care and maintenance of the Museums’ collection, including environmental monitoring, microclimates, and integrated pest management under the supervision of the Senior Preventive Conservator.
▪ Maintain all conservation documentation pertaining to the department’s files in the Museum’s database (shared folder) in accordance with the archival and digital preservation standards.
▪ Conduct laboratory tests including preparatory lab work
▪ Support the implementation of preventative conservation strategies
▪ Monitor supplies and liaise with procurement workgroup to ensure supplies are sufficient and servicing is up to date.
▪ Ensure health and safety protocols in accordance with DOSH Malaysia’s requirements are followed by all conservation staff
▪ Stay informed with the latest regulations, techniques and best practices by DOSH Malaysia.
▪ Contribute to exhibitions, loans and acquisitions with varying degrees of supervision and other undertakings fundamental to the Museums’ operations, building on a strong culture of internal teamwork between Curatorial & Collections, Education, and Maintenance Departments.
▪ Carry out technical research relevant to the Museum’s collection and/or conservation-related topics.
▪ Keep up to date with the latest advancements in the field and apply them to the conservation of the Museum’s collection under supervision.
▪ Undertakes other such duties as may be reasonably required from time to time, including support of the Museum’s programme of events and activities.
