About the event:
In conjunction with the Oceans That Speak exhibition, the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia invites you to attend a talk on celestial navigation, the ancient technique of using celestial bodies to pinpoint one’s position at sea. This has been essential to maritime exploration for centuries. By calculating the angles between the horizon and stars, the sun, or the moon, navigators were able to chart safe and precise courses across vast oceans.
In this talk participants will explore the complexities of this enduring practice, uncover the scientific principles behind it, and learn about its continued importance in modern maritime navigation. Join us for an engaging experience that connects the celestial and oceanic worlds, combining historical knowledge with modern-day relevance.
