The Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia (IAMM) in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) staged its first display on 'Syria, Yemen, Iraq: The Risk of Forever Being Lost' Photo Exhibition.
The exhibition illustrated the degree of destruction resulted from the armed conflicts taking place in Syria, Iraq and Yemen. It was divided into four sections: Religious Edifices, Commercial Structures, Social Dwellings and Historical Monuments. It attempts to record the before and after destruction and recollect the memories of our shared heritage.
Alongside the Opening of the Exhibition, a Talk entitled "Protection of cultural property in armed conflict: What can we do?" was delivered by the Regional Legal Adviser of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Ms. Margherita D’Ascanio. IAMM's Education Department also held various programs to appreciate the lost cultural heritage, among others:"Shadows of the Lost" Freehand Sketching with Mrs. Rekha Verma, the Curator of the exhibition; "Art of the Lost" Ajami Art with the Beidouns; and Thematic Weekend Workshops and Storytelling sessions.
The exhibition was open to public from 8th December 2017 to 10th May 2018 at the Open Space Gallery, Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia .
